My winter break

Hello there!
This is my first blog post on here… exciting!

Today I’m going to tell you something about my winter break, that I spent back home roaming aroung the Usti region.

My plan for that week was actually working on this page and doing a few roadtrips but my wanderlust and excitement escalated quickly and I got no work done (what a surprise).
The first change of plans occured on the day of my arrival – Saturday. I was asked if I wanted to hold a boxing session at a school in my hometown, which I naturally accepted (I’m no pro at boxing, but I really enjoy it and explaining the basics was no problem what so ever). So now I was left with only 3 days for activities and because I’m not a quitter, I’ve managed to do all that I wanted to do in these three days.

I stared the week with a hike in the mountains around my hometown and I’m not gonna lie, I was kind of dissapointed that there was hardly any snow. I even contemplaited bringing my skis with me, because cross country skiing is a bit faster than walking (but carrying your skis around is  a bit annoying, so I’m glad I didn’t). I hiked around Komari vizka on the Czech and German side (jumping over cow poo) and got extremely lucky with the weather conditions! The sky turned all black and dramatic for a short while and I’ve managed to get some ok shots. So Monday was a 8/10 (8 because of the lack of snow, cow poo and the car infront of me that was constantly pissing me off).
Tuesday was a cross-country skiing and spa day. I originally planned some downhill skiing for Tuesday, but I got my hair cut and blow-dried in the morning, so I didn’t really feel like putting a helmet on (lol). We drove up to Cinovec/Zinnwald where we parked the car and stared our journey. Unfortunately, the lack of snow made it a little less enjoyable then usual, because you couldn’t really push the sticks into the snow as it would immediately hit the road underneath it (well, you could but I didn't really feel like completely destroying all my equipment and then having to walk all the way back to the car). But the views were nice and the snow flakes started falling in the most adorable way up towards the end of the day, plus I got to shoot some photos during the golden hour, which was nice. After the exhausting skiing trip (not) we drove to Altenberg (Germany), where a spa is located, just to give our muscles a bit of a treat. Tuesday was a 9/10 (9 because of the lack of snow again…)

And now Wednesday, my personal favorite. I woke up to some thin fog and sun outside and wanted to immeadiately jump in the car and go to the Bohemian Switzerland (you might now the Saxon Switzerland and the famous Bastei bridge, but the Czech part is just as beautiful, trust me) adn go photograph. So I ate my breakfast as quickly as possible, jumped in the car and drove to Tisa relatively fast (always drive safely kids – unless you’re chasing a sunset or the golden morning light). And it was so worth it! I was there completely alone, still with a thin fog hanging in the air and I couldn’t have imagined better conditions for photography. I climbed up some rocks to shoot the views (and other rocks) and then went for a hike around the area, still completely alone. I got so lost in taking photos and my own thoughts that I haven’t even managed to say hello back to the other hikers I had met later that day (typical me). The light got then too harsh and many more tourists rolled in, so I decided to call it a day and drove back home. But I hadn't stayed home for long (I¨ve managed to squeezy in a cheeky little x-box session tho), as I had some downhill skiing planned for the evening. We drove to Cínovec again and then further to Geising (Germany) to enjoy the sunset on the slope (I’d say slopes but there is just one…). An amazing experience, as you don’t usually get to do that! As you can probably already tell: Wednesday was a 10/10!

The rest of my stay I was quite busy with other things (boxing and a trip to Prague – there might be some photos coming from that trip), but this was honestly one of my fave weeks ever!
And what about you? Do you like to plan very single minute of your stay somewhere or do you rather „go with the flow“? Let me know in the comments, I’d love to know!

Have a great day,
Jitka
